State innovator develops new hybrid car
By Surajit Khaund
GUWAHATI, Jan 7 – ‘Kanso’, a new hybrid car has been developed in Guwahati. The 100-cc two-seater car is the latest innovation of Kanak Gogoi. The youth has already developed eco-friendly bikes, hovercraft and tricycles that have drawn worldwide attention, including leading automobile companies. What is more significant is that the Centre Bits and Atom, a US-based organisation, has extended financial assistance to Gogoi for setting up of a new digital lab for developing his new innovations.

“Kanso is a new concept car which does not have any gear. Altogether four solar panels have been used to generate 320 watt and it will run on solar energy and petrol,” Gogoi told this correspondent today. According to him the new car will be useful for Guwahati roads considering the growing traffic snarls.

Providing more information about the new car, he informed that Kanso is a fuel-efficient car and its maximum speed would be 40 km per hour. “It took nearly two months to complete the car. I have also introduced petrol, so that Kanso can be used if the solar panels develop any problem,” Gogoi said. The manufacturing cost of the car is Rs 1.50 lakh.

Gogoi set up a small garage in 1996 in his home located at Mathura Nagar, Guwahati, where he developed a number of bikes, autorickshaws and vivid automobile products. “I always want to do new things. I conceived an idea of manufacturing an eco-friendly car in the early part of last year and it has now been materialised,” said an elated Gogoi. He has several plans of manufacturing aviation products provided he gets support from the authorities concerned.

The famous institute of the USA, MIT, has already recognised his talent. Gogoi has developed a new technique of generating electricity from vehicles moving on the roads. “I had a long video presentation about my new technique at an MIT seminar and it was widely accepted,” Gogoi informed.

The new car will be displayed in the Auto Fair beginning from February 28 in Guwahati. Gogoi will also seek patent on his new car.
